Shiny Objects: The Iconography of Ego & Power

Artwork Statement:
Sanctioned within institutions of power, service medals are conferred upon recipients for perceived meritorious conduct, identifying them as figures of authority set apart from others. Despite their widespread regard, however, these honours and awards are conferred largely upon binary males, perpetuating hegemonic and heroic constructs of masculinity.

By subverting service medal iconography, Shiny Objects challenges the institutional fabrication of constructed power and identity, visually questioning how, why and to whom such honours and awards are conferred. It does this through both parody and homogenisation
